Overview

Why expats keep choosing Medellín

Medellín sits in the Andes at 1,500m, giving it one of the most comfortable climates in the world — warm enough to never need heating, cool enough to never need air conditioning. Combined with a cost of living that runs 50–70% below Western Europe or North America, it has become the default first choice for long-term remote workers moving to Latin America.

The city has invested heavily in infrastructure over the past decade — Metro, cable cars, fibre broadband, and a functioning healthcare system. The international expat community is large enough that getting started without fluent Spanish is entirely possible, though learning the language opens the city up considerably.

The rental market is active and competitive. Scam listings and inflated prices targeting foreigners are common, particularly on Airbnb and in El Poblado. Running a ClickCasa analysis before you commit is one of the most effective ways to avoid overpaying.
