Overview
Laureles sits west of the Río Medellín and feels like a completely different city from El Poblado. The streets are quieter, the restaurants are aimed at Colombians rather than tourists, and the rents — for comparable apartments — run 20–30% lower. For expats who've got their bearings, it's often where they end up.
The neighbourhood's centrepiece is Calle 70, one of Medellín's great street-level food and social scenes. Bakeries, traditional restaurants, craft beer bars, and international spots all coexist within a few blocks. It doesn't have the density of coworking cafés that Poblado does, but the gap is closing.
The trade-off is clear: less English infrastructure, fewer furnished apartments available for short-notice lets, and a neighbourhood where Spanish fluency helps considerably. But for anyone staying more than a couple of months, this is a very strong alternative to Poblado — and a ClickCasa report will show you exactly how individual listings compare.
